Blizzard announced Overwatch at their own convention Blizzcon on November 7, 2014.
You probably know Blizzard due to game series like Diablo, Starcraft or (World of) Warcraft. With Overwatch, they’ll add a multiplayer first person shooter to their repertory. Two teams of 6 heroes will be fighting each other. Currently, 16 heroes which are distributed across 4 roles (offensive, defensive, tank and support) have been revealed and each one of them comes with different abilities. So, everyone should be able to find a fitting hero. Maybe the American bounty hunter McCree, who belongs to the offensive role and has an ability where he can execute a combat roll while simultaneously reloading his six-shooter “Peacekeeper”. Or you could choose the Russian Zarya. A tank with the ability to protect her teammates with a barrier. Whoever you may choose, there is a lot of diversity.
Not only the characters offer variety but the game modes do as well. At the moment, there are 2 modes announced: payload and point caputure. In payload, the attackers try to move the payload to a delivery point on the map in a certain amount of time while the defenders try to stop them. In point capture, the attacking teams has the objective to capture specific points on the map whereas the defending team does everything in its power to prevent it.
Blizzard has not yet announced a release date nor did they confirm which pay model they will be using. In regards to platforms, the PC is the only confirmed platform so far. So, PC gamers can be relieved. They even have the opportunity to apply for the closed beta and play the game before its release. The beta is supposed to start this fall and you can still sign up with the following link: http://blizz.ly/JoinOverwatch
